Hello,
I passed the AFZ exam yesterday in Innsbruck!
Here're my feedback:
- I only prepared myself using Radiocheck.at and everything worked well.
- Tempo of the examiner during the radio practice part was pretty high. I went as "zuhörer" during the exam session in December 2025 and the tempo was clearly slower. We were 4 participants and 1 failed. One of the reasons was because he was too slow to answer.
- NOTAM and quizz were exactly like what the ones you find on radiocheck.at
- For non German native speakers, about the NOTAM translation: German is not my mother tongue (B1 or B2) and I was really afraid of that part. What I did to train myself is to create flashcards using an app, and every word that I wasn't comfortable with, I created a flashcard accordingly. For example: VOR -> UKW-Drehfunkfeur, to comply -> einhalten, to assign -> zuweisen, territory -> Hoheitsgebiet, etc.
I did grammatical errors during the exam: der/die/das/den/dem/..., "während diese Zeit" instead of "während dieser Zeit", wrong words placement, etc..
But for my understanding, what is important is to know the key words and to build a comprehensive translation, despite the grammatical errors. It worked for me at least and I didn't learn word by word every 33 NOTAMs.
So thank you radiocheck, I can and will definitely recommend it!
Good luck everyone!
Cheers,
David
